Albany Tech starts Habitat home project

February 4, 2009 (WALB) -  Albany Technical College students are doing service work for Habitat for Humanity while learning their trade skills.

Carpentry students at Albany Tech today built window and door frames, headers, jack studs, and corners that will be used to construct a Habitat for Humanity home.

Over the next two weeks, 20 Albany Tech students will finish the pre-cut and construction work that will speed up the home building process by at least half a day.

Albany Tech Carpentry Instructor Wayne Barnett said  "They were more than delighted to take a break from their book work, and actually get into the lab and start doing work."

The carpentry for the Habitat House will be delivered to the home site February 26th. Albany Tech instructors say their students will continue to do this work for future habitat homes.
