February 10, 2009 – Albany Technical College is pleased to welcome Master Plumber Mark Crawford, of Americus, to its faculty. Crawford boasts more than 30-years experience in the plumbing and construction industries. He has owned Americus Plumbing Company since 2000. Crawford began teaching plumbing courses in the summer of 2008 as an adjunct instructor.
Crawford says his years as a business owner will influence his teaching.
“I bring a unique perspective to the job,” said Crawford. “I not only plan to teach students the craft of plumbing, but also to educate them about owning their own businesses.”
The high demand for qualified plumbers in southwest Georgia lead Albany Technical College to launch its first plumbing program in Winter 2008. The 18-month, diploma program emphasizes a combination of plumbing theory and practical applications necessary for successful employment. Graduates will earn a diploma and have the qualification of an apprentice plumber. Graduates will be prepared to work in residential or commercial plumbing or start their own businesses upon completion of the State of Georgia's Licensing Board requirements.
According to the website www.salary.com , entry level plumbers in southwest Georgia earn between $25,000 and $35,000.
Crawford, a technical college graduate, is married to Teresa Crawford. They have two children. Crawford is also the Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 27 in Americus.
