June 16, 2009 – Nearly 100 rising ninth graders from the Dougherty Comprehensive High School are taking part in a unique summer camp this week at Albany Technical College. The students are on campus from 8:00a.m.until noon each day.

The students chose to participate in one of six academic programs including Web Design, Culinary Arts, Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision Repair, Environmental Horticulture, and Construction/Plumbing. During the Summer Bridge camp, the students will complete a project such creating a web page, completing a landscaping design or creating an auto-body paint design.

“We hope the camp will introduce the students to the benefits of technical education,” said Albany Tech’s High School Coordinator Betty Steel. “The camp will allow the teens to explore possible career interests and hopefully, we can encourage them to stay in school and go to college.”

Summer Bridge is paid for with grant funds.
