August 5, 2013 - Albany, GA - Albany Technical College will hold an informational session for “Troops to Trucks” on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, beginning at 5:30pm in the Kirkland Conference Center.

Troops to Trucks is a program created by Georgia Governor Deal’s Office of Workforce Development designed specifically for veterans to become trained as CDL truck drivers. The program was created to provide the 60,000 to 80,000 veterans expected to return home to Georgia in the next few years an opportunity to train in the field of Commercial Truck Driving. Considering most veterans possess the talents and training to become successful truck drivers, they are able to easily transition into careers as CDL drivers.

Albany Technical College offers a rigorous eight-week CDL training course designed to equip each driver with the skills and expertise necessary to become successful truck drivers. With a 99 percent job placement rate for graduates, Albany Tech’s Commercial Truck Driving program graduates are highly sought after and employed by some of the highest-rated trucking companies in the country.

During the informational session on Tuesday, trucking companies such as BW, Werner Enterprises, TMC, Roehl, Knight Refrigerated, and U.S. Xpress will be on-hand with recruiters to speak with veterans. In addition, through Albany Tech’s partnership with the Southwest Georgia 44 Workforce Investment Board, financial assistance is available to qualified individuals.
