Albany Tech Holds Fall Honors Day Program

December 1, 2014- Albany, GA- Albany Technical College will hold Honor's Day for fall on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, beginning at 11am in the Kirkland Conference Center. Keynote speaker for the program will be Dr. Dorothy King Garner, retired dean of Albany Tech's Health Care Technology division.

A native of Arlington, Georgia, Garner is a 1968 graduate of Monroe High School. She graduated from Albany Area Technical School's (now Albany Technical College) Practical Nursing program in 1971 and from Albany Junior College (now Darton College) in 1977 with an associate's degree in Nursing. Earning her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Argosy University, Garner also holds both her bachelor and master's degrees in Education from Valdosta State University and a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Albany State University. She holds an Education Specialist degree from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Christian Life School of Theology.

Garner serves as a minister at Rivers of Living Water Church International. She was employed in various positions at Albany Tech for 32 years. When she retired in 2012, she was serving as Dean of Academic Affairs for Health Care Technology. She has received honors recognition from Sigma Alpha Chi Honor Society, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Albany State College Nursing Honor Society, and was a recipient of the Scholastic All-American Collegiate Award, the United States Achievement Academy Collegiate Award, Who's Who in American Nursing, and the Outstanding Clinical Instructor for Health Education Occupation. Serving as an NCLEX Review Item Writer for Mosby Publishing Company, Garner has also edited numerous books, and has written curriculum for several health programs.

More than 100 Albany Tech students will be recognized during Tuesday's ceremony for award categories such as American Criminal Justice Association Club, ATC Ambassadors, Collegiate DECA, Engineering Club (E-Club), Honors with Distinction, Mr. and Miss ATC, National Technical Honors Society (NTHS), Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Presidential Scholar, SkillsUSA, Student Fellowship for Christians (SFC), Student Government Association (SGA), and General Education Development (GED).

The fall Honors Day program recognizes honor students in advance of Albany Tech's regularly scheduled fall graduation, which will be held on this coming Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 7pm, at the Albany Civic Center. More information to come later this week on Albany Tech's fall graduation.
