February 26, 2013- ALBANY, GA- Albany Technical College's Child Development Demonstration Center will receive a Bearable Hugs donation from the Department of Human Resources (DHR) Support Services division during a special presentation at 10am on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. The award will be presented by Teresa Mills with DHR Support Services division and her staff.

Each year, the DHR Support Services division's Bearable Hugs annual campaign kicks off by collecting new stuffed animals and donating them to those in the community. This year, DHR chose Albany Tech's Child Development Demonstration Center, who they say have been instrumental in helping them serve the children in this community.

The Albany Tech Child Development Demonstration Center was established in 1980 as a campus laboratory school for the purpose of providing a site for Early Childhood students at Albany Tech. A new state-of-the-art facility was constructed in 2001 and is licensed by Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL). The program serves infants (two months) to children five years of age (not eligible for kindergarten) and gives first priority enrollment to Albany Tech students, faculty, staff and individuals living in the Enterprise Zone.

The Center is a State of Georgia Center of Distinction, which is the highest credential available for childcare programs in Georgia. Additionally, the Center is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which is the highest credential available for childcare programs in the Nation and a widely recognized mark of high quality.
