Albany Technical College Success Terms Information Session

Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College, a Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) postsecondary institution, is making a bold move to ensure success for its students. Starting in the fall of 2019, the current semester system will change to two seven-week academic terms that have been labeled “Success Terms” or “7 + 7 Semesters.”  This is the third and final presentation of “Success Terms” held at the college, Tuesday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center on the campus of Albany Tech.  Information sessions on the new semester system have already taken place in April and May of this year.

 

Campus Tours

Albany, GeorgiaAlbany Technical College has planned once a month Saturday campus tours through the end of 2019. The next tour will be Saturday, July 20, starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center, 1704 South Slappey Boulevard. More than 100 people will attend Saturday’s event including members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Albany. An introduction and information session will kick-off the tour at the conference center.

TCSG Apprenticeship Road Trip

Albany, GeorgiaAlbany Technical College will host the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Apprenticeship Road Trip on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, beginning at 9 a.m., in the Kirkland Conference Center. TCSG has been conducting sessions throughout the state on the various types and benefits of apprenticeship programs for our area companies and organizations. The session should last about 90 minutes. Topics discussed will include German Apprenticeship Model, U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program and other concerns related to apprenticeships.

Albany, GeorgiaAlbany Technical College, Fire Science Technology Program, will host a uniqueprogram showcase on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 10 a.m., Charles B. Gillespie, M.D. Center for Emergency Responders (EMR), Room EMR-112. On hand for the event will be current and former students, faculty, staff, and area employers. An introduction of the new Fire and Emergency Services Occupation Associate of Applied Science Degree will be discussed. This is the first degree of this kind in the state of Georgia. Starting in the fall, students will have an opportunity to sign up to be dual certified. It gives a student both components Fire and EMS. Plus, it also is a degree designed for promotional purposes at the occupational level.

Albany, GeorgiaKhalif Collier Sr. won the Silver medal in Masonry and Sarah Braziel won the Bronze medal in Dental Assisting at the SkillsUSA national competition this past week in Louisville, Kentucky. This convention, the 55th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference, is the world’s largest showcase of skilled trades.  More than 6,500 outstanding career and technical education students competed hands-on in 103 different trade, technical and leadership fields. This is a significant accomplishment seeing as all of the students must compete and win local and state levels before entering the national competition.
