Albany, Georgia- Albany Technical College announces a tuition increase for the fall of 2019. This adjustment is part of an overall increase statewide with all of the Technical College System of Georgia colleges. For five years, the tuition rate at TCSG colleges has remained at $89 per credit hour. The last time TCSG had a tuition increase was in 2014—$4 per credit hour. After careful consideration, TCSG will increase its tuition to $100 per credit hour.
The tuition increase will provide our technical colleges the opportunity to keep pace with increased operational costs and expand enrollment to meet the growing demand for a middle-skilled workforce.
But Albany Technical College has been proactive in the financial burden to local students this past year by lowering the cost of books. Albany Technical College has practically eliminated the cost of general core class books for students through several proactive initiatives. Further reductions are in place to completely eliminate the cost of general core books by January 2020. This change means zero book cost to the students in these core curriculum classes here at Albany Tech.
There are opportunities to enroll in a TCSG institution tuition-free through the HOPE Career Grant for those students interested in pursuing a diploma or certificate in one of 17 high-demand career fields.
“If a student does their research, they will see that we are a great value. We offer quality education at an affordable cost. Several programs in our curriculum are nationally recognized for quality and value. We even stand behind our education by offering a warranty for all graduating students,” stated Dr. Anthony Parker, President of Albany Technical College. Albany Technical College warranties all graduates. Any graduate who does not meet program standards can be re-educated at no cost to the graduate or the employer.
This increase will allow our colleges to meet the needs of students and industry while remaining one of the most affordable postsecondary options in Georgia. The new tuition rate is still less than the overwhelming majority of higher education institutions in the state.
The tuition increase will go into effect beginning in the fall 2019 semester enrollment period.
