Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College will hold its annual Titans Athletic Banquet on Friday, April 12, 2019, beginning at 6 pm in the Kirkland Conference Center. The event will honor basketball players and cheerleaders from the 2018-2019 season.
Keynote speaker for the banquet will be Brandon Dawkins, Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Head Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Coach at Brooks County High School. While at the school, Dawkins has set school records for wins and playoff appearances in both sports. Recently voted Region Soccer Coach of the Year, he also has won a National Championship on the A.A.U. level. A Valdosta resident, Dawkins is a Certified Addictions Counselor and owns B.M.A. and Dawkins Behavioral Health Systems. He uses his experiences to speak to other mental health professionals about adolescent PTSD.
Dawkins is a native of Columbia, S.C., where he attended C.A. Johnson High School. He led his team to the S.C. State Class AAA State Championship in 1986. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Dawkins was selected to the 1989 Southern California All-Navy Basketball Team.
Dawkins attended Livingston University as an undergraduate and the University of Southern Mississippi, Jackson State University, and the University of West Alabama for graduate studies. He holds Master’s and Specialist Degrees in Education and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Dawkins served as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Albany Technical College for seven years.
Albany Tech Men’s Titans and Lady Titans will both receive several awards during the April 12 ceremony, which will feature a video recap of the season. The Titan Cheerleaders also will be recognized at the banquet.
