My name is Anthony Parker and I am the President here at Albany Technical College. We are glad you chose Albany Tech as your college. As an Albany Tech Titan, you will learn all the skills you need to become successful members of the workforce. I hope that you will take full advantage of those learning opportunities.

While you’re here, don’t forget to involve yourselves in student activities. Whether you join a club, the chorus, or decide to play basketball with us, make sure you have some fun while working on your diploma or degree.

Navigate your way through the orientation by selecting next section at the bottom of each page. You may also select a section on the right of your screen to go directly to a page. Some pages may have links that you may select to view additional information; a window will open, click the back button on your browser to return to the Orientation. At the end of the orientation, there will be a short quiz. You will need to indicate your full name, that you put on your Admissions Application, and your Titan Student ID# that you were assigned. The quiz is electronically submitted to the Admissions office and is placed in your student folder.


The Admissions department at Albany Tech is your first point of contact as you become a student here. We process your applications and provide testing services for college admittance. Our offices are located in the Kirkland Administration Building, in Room 124. We are here to help you with all your admissions and testing needs.

The Acceptance letter you received in the mail contains valuable information about your enrollment at Albany Technical College. The following information is included in your acceptance letter

  • Your Student Identification Number, which begins with 900
  • Your Program of Study
  • Your Program Advisor
  • The semester you have been accepted for
  • Registration dates
  • Payment deadline

Please make note of your student ID number. You will use this number on all forms and documents you complete with Albany Technical College. You will also use this number to log into your student BANNER web account, which details your financial aid and registration information, as well as much more.


My name is Suzann Culpepper and I am the Registrar here at Albany Technical College. My department is responsible for pre-registering students, transcript services, and graduation. Keep in mind that you can only drop and add a class during the first five days of the term. You can change a class, provided there are seats available and the instructor agrees for you to enter the class. When you pre-register for your last class, you will be just two semesters away from graduating. It is important that you apply for graduation especially if you plan to walk in the ceremony. You may request official transcripts from my department by completing the form found on the Albany Technical College website. We are here to help you with your needs, so come and see us in the Kirkland Administration Building.

FERPA: Your Legal Rights as a Student
Albany Technical College will not release information about you, your whereabouts, your grades, or your progress in classes to anyone but you.  Please make sure your parents, family, and friends understand that if they have questions about your records, they must ask you, not the college.

This is a brief summary of your rights under The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the federal law that governs release of and access to student education records. These rights include:

  • The right to inspect and review your education record within a reasonable time after the college receives a request for access. If you want to review your record, contact the Office of Registration and Records to make appropriate arrangements.

  • The right to request an amendment of your education record if you believe it is inaccurate or misleading. If you feel there is an error in your record, you should submit a statement to the director of registration and records, clearly identifying the part of the record you want changed and why you believe it is inaccurate or misleading. The director will notify you of his or her decision and advise you regarding appropriate steps if you do not agree with the decision.

  • The right to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in your education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. One exception that permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school officials with "legitimate educational interests." A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official has "need to know" information from your education record in order to fulfill his or her official responsibilities. Examples of people who may have access, depending on their official duties, and only within the context of those duties, include college faculty and staff, agents of the institution, students employed by the institution or who serve on official institutional committees, and representatives of agencies under contract with the college.

  • The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the college to comply with the requirements of FERPA.

  • If you would like someone to have access to your records at Albany Technical College, please fully complete the Request for Release of Information form and return it to the Registrar’s office.

The Drop Period (the first three instructional days of the term) and the Add Period (the first seven calendar days of the term) are different. A student may drop or add a course(s) without academic penalty during the drop period designated in the official school calendar. However, progression rate and financial aid eligibility will be affected. A student may also add a course(s) during the add period designated in the official school calendar. Dropped courses after the end of the drop period will be assigned a grade of “W” with either F (failing), or P (passing). The WF grade counts as a failing grade. Any student requesting to drop/add classes must see his/her instructor and program advisor. There are no refunds for withdrawing from classes after the third day of the semester.


The procedure for changes in schedules should be followed as outlined below.

  1. The Drop/Add form must be obtained in the Student Services office
  2. The student must take the completed drop/add form to the Student Service office. Financial Aid will determine how the drop/add will affect the student's financial aid award and whether the financial aid will cover all costs resulting from the change.
  3. A new schedule will be available for the student to print via Bannerweb. The student is responsible for any additional costs.
  4. A Drop/Add Form should be used for any student dropping a class during the drop/add period.



Banner Web is your student information system. Banner Web gives you access to your personal and academic information via the World Wide Web. Banner Web gives you the ability to view grades and transcripts, check account balances and financial aid, register for classes, and much much more.

Enrollment Verification

national student clearinghouseTechnical College uses the National Student Clearinghouse to verify enrollment through the Banner Web Student Self Services program.  Albany Technical College no longer provides student enrollment and degree verifications directly.  Student Self Service enables Albany Technical College students to print official enrollment verification certification or degree verification certifications on demand via our secure student portal at no charge to the student. If you have any question, please feel free to contact the Clearinghouse at (703) 742-4200.


Your program advisor will guide you in selecting classes each semester and making sure you are meeting the requirements of your program. Advisors are assigned based on a student's acceptance status and program of study. Your advisor's name is listed on your acceptance letter. Each semester you must meet with your advisor to schedule classes for the upcoming term.

Scheduling Classes

College can be exciting and overwhelming when it comes to scheduling classes. Your class schedule is critical to your success, and you will need the support and guidance from your academic advisor. Consider the following to help you map out a schedule that best serves your specific needs. 

Program Requirements
Because Albany Technical College offers a wide variety of degree, diploma, and technical certificates, different students may be required to complete different courses for their program of study. You can find the program descriptions in our College Catalog, as well as on the Areas of Study section of the Admissions web page.

Course Selection
College courses require good study habits, and you will need to learn to balance your school, home and work life when planning your college schedule. it is a good idea to ensure the types of classes you are taking are going to fit your unique schedule so you can be successful.

Course Load
To be considered a full-time student, you must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Try to balance your schedule so you are not too overwhelmed. Think about your commitments outside of school. Do you have children? Work responsibilities? Other activities that take up your time? Do not take more classes than you can reasonably expect to be successful in or you will risk lowering your GPA or losing financial aid. Manage your time wisely!

Time of Day
Albany Technical College offers classes on many different days and at many different times, as well as, online so you should be able to find a schedule that works for you. See your program advisor for assistance with creating your class schedule.

Work Ethics

To fulfill our responsibility to teach essential workplace ethics, the college reviews with all students ten standards of behavior in the workplace. These standards are as follows:

  1. Attendance--Students attend classes regularly, arrive and leave on time, and notify instructors of planned absences.
  2. Character--Students display honesty, dependability, initiative, self-discipline, and responsibility.
  3. Teamwork--Students are supportive of classmates, respect the rights of others, and contribute to the team.
  4. Appearance--Students display appropriate dress, grooming, and hygiene.
  5. Attitude--Students demonstrate positive attitudes and self-confidence and have realistic expectations of themselves and others.
  6. Productivity--Students follow safety practices, conserve materials, keep work areas neat and clean, demonstrate interest in the quality of their work, and follow directions.
  7. Organizational Skills--Students possess skills in prioritizing and accomplishing tasks, appropriately manage time and stress, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to change.
  8. Communication--Students display appropriate verbal (speaking), nonverbal (eye contact and body language), and listening skills.
  9. Cooperation--Students respond appropriately to constructive criticism, conflicts, and complaints and demonstrate the ability to solve problems.
  10. Respect--Students react appropriately to cultural/racial diversity in the classroom, lab, or clinical/practicum/internship setting and maintain appropriate and respectful relationships with faculty members and peers.


No-Show Policy

A No-Show is a student who does not attend class or make any attempt to contact his or her instructor during the first full week of the academic term. 

You are expected to attend class beginning the first day of the term. If you are absent from the first class meeting, it is your responsibility to contact your instructor and confirm that you intend to be a student in his or her class. If you do not communicate with your instructor during the first week of class, you will be removed from the class as a no-show. Students taking online courses must log onto Blackboard within the first five days of the start of the academic term and communicate with the course instructors. Otherwise, instructors of online courses will report these students as no-shows. Students who attend at least one class session, log onto Blackboard and communicate with their online instructors, or meet with instructors of self-directed/individualized instruction courses during the first five days of the academic term but later stop attending classes are not considered no-shows.

Financial Aid

My name is Ophelia Price and I Financial Aid specialist here at Albany Technical College. My department is here to assist you in making sure you complete the appropriate forms to apply for any form of financial aid, whether it is the HOPE Grant and Scholarship, PELL Grant, or student loan. Timing is of the essence when applying for financial aid and we are here to assist you in any way we can. Remember that application for aid must be completed each academic year. Financial aid recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress to remain eligible to receive student financial aid funds. Students must meet both areas of GPA and completion rate each term and overall to stay qualified. We are here to help you with all your financial needs, so come and see us in the Kirkland Administration Building.

You can access Financial Aid information on Albany Technical College's Web page under the Students menu. There you will find very helpful information, including basic requirements, how to apply, financial aid facts, scholarships, satisfactory academic progress, selected for verification and financial aid forms. The mission of the Office of Financial Aid is to help remove financial barriers to assist students in meeting the cost of attendance at Albany Technical College.

Applying for Financial Aid

All applicants should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is recommended that students file their FAFSA at least four to six weeks prior to the date the funds will be needed. The application is available online at

Reapplying for Aid
All students must reapply for financial aid each year. The priority funding deadline to renew your financial aid is July 1st for the fall semester. All financial aid awards are reviewed annually based on:

  • the timely completion of the financial aid application process
  • continued demonstrated financial need 
  • maintenance of Satisfactory Academic Progress 
  • availability of resources

If you completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when applying for financial aid for the previous academic year, you should receive an email from the U.S. Department of Education with instructions about how to once again submit the application electronically. Failure to reapply for financial aid each year will result in a loss of financial aid for that year and possibly subsequent years.

Change of Major

The following steps must be completed in order to change a major:

  • Students must obtain a Change of Major form from the Testing Center.
  • The top portion of the form must be completed and returned to the Testing Center for approval. A Career Evaluator will determine if all new program requirements have been met.
  • The student must take the form to a Financial Aid Counselor to determine whether financial aid will cover the major change. Once approved, the student takes the form to the Registrar’s office.
  • The Registrars office checks applicable information and updates the Banner system based on the new program of study. If everything is approved, the student may register for classes in his/her new program of study. When changing a major, it will become effective the following semester.


Special Needs

My name is Regina Watts and I am the Special Needs Coordinator here at Albany Technical College. My office provides accommodations and services for students with disabilities. Any student with a disability, whether physical and psychological, who has documented need for classroom accommodations, is eligible to receive services through the Special Needs office. STARS Retention Services

My name is Kerisha Wilson and I am a Retention Counselor here on the STARS Team at Albany Technical College. What is the STARS Team? STARS stands for Student Tracking and Retention Services. I am one of three counselors that support students in building long lasting skills needed in order to be successful and get the most out of your education. We desire to connect and correlate academic support to daily learning. Although the STARS program is intended to serve first semester students, the program is beneficial to students beyond their first semester of college. In order to support and assist our students, we ask that you consult your STARS Counselor before making major decisions such as dropping a course or withdrawing from the institution. We understand that life does not always go as planned, however, we are here to assist students with study habits, time management, career goals, scheduling, financial aid concerns, family or social situations, and much more. STARS counselors can refer students to external agencies that can better assist with addressing the problem area. We guide you towards your academic goals by providing resources, references, and counseling. However, you must be the one to make the ultimate choice and be in full control of your educational experience. We are your resource to help you succeed. My name is Judy Jimmerson and I am the Career Development Center Director here at Albany Technical College. Business Office/Bookstore

My name is Janet Hayes and I am the Director of Accounting in the Business Office here at Albany Technical College. We issue parking permits and the BankMobile Vibe Account to students who receive financial aid refunds. The Bookstore is also part of our office. Besides books for your courses, you can find ATC sportswear, key chains, and many more items in our new Bookstore, which is located in Freedom Hall – just behind the Kirkland Building here on campus. Academic Achievement Center

My name is Dr. Debra Jones, and I am the dean at Albany Technical College for General Education, Learning Support, and the Academic Achievement Center. Student Activities

I am Mary Richardson, the Student Activities and Athletics Director at Albany Technical College. I know that your first priority is taking advantage of the excellent instruction and hands on training that you will receive at Albany Tech. However, being a Titan also gives you the opportunity to develop your leadership, social and communication skills. So, while you are here, we hope you will get involved with the activities and our clubs and organizations including Phi Beta Lambda, SkillsUSA, Chorus, Collegiate DECA, National Technical Honor Society, Foundation Setters for Future Minds, Student Fellowship for Christians, Student Government Association, and the ATC Ambassadors. In addition, plan to spend some time on the courts with our Titans and Lady Titans basketball teams as they lead us to victory. Remember that a student must be in good standing with Albany Tech and have a validated student ID card for the current semester to participate in any of these activities. Student ID

atc namebadgeAlbany Tech students must obtain a Student ID card and have it visible at all times.  In order to keep your ID card current, you must obtain a validation sticker that will be placed on the back of your card each semester.  You will need your ID card to participate in student activities, check out materials in the library and receive assistance within student services. Students must have a current semester schedule and a state issued ID or driver license  to get validation stickers  or  picture  IDs. There is $5 replacement fee for IDs.  Fee is payable at the Business Office window.

Faculty, staff or visitors should report questioned activity/incidents to a Security Officer on duty; students should report these activities to their instructor or the first available college staff member. The faculty member or staff member should immediately contact Campus Security by calling 430-3500. After business hours, contact Brown Security at 886-9800 (Monday through Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and weekends). At the Randolph County Learning Center, call 229/732-5829 and after hours call 911.

This procedure is not intended to impede the reporting of an emergency directly to the appropriate party (i.e. Police Department, Fire Department or Ambulance, etc.). In extreme emergencies, please call 911 and immediately report the situation to an Albany Technical College staff member.

The college maintains an excellent working relationship with its local police departments. Crimes involving major property loss or a felony are reported to the city police for prosecution.

In accordance with the 1991 Student’s Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act, each year Albany Technical Collegepublished its crime statistics for the three previous years:

As students, employees or guests, you can, to a great extent, add to or detract from our efforts to keep criminal activity on the campuses to a minimal level. To that end, here are a few safety tips, which we hope you will read and follow:

 Report all crimes or suspicious activity to campus security or the police.

DO Mark personal property such as books, calculators, cell phones, adaptive equipment, etc., with a secret pin number or some form of identification.

DO Protect your personal property just as you would protect your money or other valuables.

DON’T leave personal items unattended, including books, jewelry and backpacks.

DON’T leave valuable items on or in your car.

DON’T leave purses in desks or file cabinets unless they are locked.

DON’T leave personal items unattended on restroom vanities.


In accordance with Public Law 101-226, Section 22, Albany Technical College declares itself a Drug and Alcohol-Free campus. No student may engage in the unlawful manufacture, possession, use or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on the college’s property or as part of any of its sponsored activities. Such lawful activity may be considered grounds for serious punitive action, including expulsion. The policy extends to vehicles, as well as clinical affiliates. Specifically, in the case of a drug-related offense, the student shall be suspended for the remainder of the semester and forfeit any academic credit for that period.


It is unlawful for an individual to bring, possess or have under such person’s control any explosive compound, firearm or knife designed for the purpose of offense or defense while on the Albany Tech campuses. The provisions of this policy also include, but are not limited to, any function or event of, or at any of the State’s technical colleges, its campuses, satellites, buildings, vehicles or involving its employees or students. Having a license to carry a pistol is no justification under this policy. However, these provisions do not apply to those persons who are specifically exempted by law, including school personnel who are authorized to carry weapons, including campus police or security officers, state or federal prosecuting attorneys, federal law enforcement officers and public safety directors.
